We use an ancient technique called batik. During this process the sarongs are dyed and then the color is set by the sun. It is a process that has been around since the first century. Because of this technique, colors may tend to bleed after the first wash. Handmade items need a little bit of extra Love because they are unique.

Who is behind Shu-Shi?

I started Shu-Shi over 20 years ago after finishing my education in Fashion and Textile Design in New York City. I have always had a passion to learn and explore. In my many travels I landed in Bali where I fell in love with the vibrant colors and textile designs. Here, I also found a wonderful team that has turned into my family. Staying with the same manufacturer for over 20 years now, Shu-Shi has helped provide and maintain jobs to women and men in Bali, Indonesia who make our wonderful handmade products.
